MORE OF THE STORY
The Coffee
Cafe de la Esperanza is shade grown on the rugged and remote hillsides of the Ixil Triangle in the Quiche region of Guatemala. This area, once ravaged by a 36 year civil war, now produces a treasure, Cafe de la Esperanza. Grown and sun-dried at 3,500 to 5,000 feet, Cafe de la Esperanza is a sweet, citric coffee with balanced body and acidity. Each coffee plant is hand-cultivated and every bean is hand-processed at "Finca La Perla." This unique combination of characteristics has led to "Finca La Perla" receiving International Recognition in the form of the "Cup of Excellence" award.
The Farmers
Project Esperanza was established to provide farming pastors and leaders in the Quiche region a way to access the global marketplace to receive a fair price for their labors. Requiring an incredibly labor intensive process, coffee farming means long hours of work with only backs and mules to carry the burden. Project Esperanza seeks to improve the living conditions of farming pastors and community leaders as they provide for their growing families and work in their local churches and communities to promote hope and peace. Proceeds from Cafe de la Esperanza go back into the Project to support resources for churches and communities in the region that promote hope and peace.
