Shepherd’s Hope Medical Clinic

Each day people go without medical care because they don't have health insurance and they can't afford a doctor's visit, diagnostic testing or prescribed medication. Nationwide, eight out of ten uninsured people are from working families that are not eligible for government assisted health care plans. Many uninsured workers are employed in small businesses that can't afford to offer health insurance, or they are low wage workers that cannot afford to pay the costs associated with an employer sponsored plan. Some people also carry one or more part-time jobs where health care benefits are not available.

Through the combined efforts of volunteer physicians and other health-care professionals, schools, hospitals, and churches, Shepherd's Hope Health Centers are able to provide quality, non-emergency medical care to those in need. Shepherd's Hope is a faith-based organization of volunteers providing access to health care for the uninsured.

Holy Cross Lutheran Ministries is taking the lead in setting up a Shepherd’s Hope Medical Clinic in our area. We have leased space in Fairmont Plaza , next door to The Sharing Center’s Thrift Store. We are currently working on building out the space, and hope to open the doors to the public before the end of the year.

Lutheran Build / Habitat for Humanity

The Lutheran Build is a combined effort of all the Lutheran Churches in Seminole County to build a Habitat for Humanity home. As those of you who have been following the project know, it has been delayed multiple times.

Habitat For Humanity is currently preparing to assign a new lot for us to build on. Keep an eye out here for more developments!

We are in the process of organizing our community service ministries into “Small Groups”. A Small Group may be in charge of an ongoing mission, an annual event, or a one-time event. The purpose of each Community Service Small Group is to carry out a mission that serves the needs of the community, to grow the faith of its members, and to develop bonds among its members.

In each ministry, we will have the following opportunities for people to volunteer:

  • The Small Group Leader is in charge of the ministry and, with input from the members of the Small Group, organizes its activities. In addition, the Small Group Leader is responsible for coordinating the project with church staff. The Small Group Leader should also be available to represent the ministry at quarterly Holy Cross Leadership Forums.
  • The Small Group members are the heart of the ministry. They are responsible for manning projects and recruiting volunteers. They are also responsible for communications with volunteers, members of the congregation, and other members of the community.
  • Other volunteers are always needed for our ministries. These are people that may only be able to participate occasionally, but they are still greatly valued!

We are currently developing Small Groups for the following ministries:

  • The Sharing Center -- ongoing activities (Leader: Debbie Bonjour )
  • Thanksgiving baskets (Leader: Karen Michael )
  • Habitat For Humanity (Leader: TBD)
  • Shepherd’s Hope Clinic (Leader: TBD)
